Boyle Heights Historical Society’s New Home!

The Boyle Heights Historical Society has a new headquarters, thanks to the generosity of the good folks at the International Institute of Los Angeles. Starting October 1st, the Society’s address is: 435 S. Boyle Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90033. Having a headquarters has long been a goal of the Society for office space, a meeting place and for other uses. Given the century of public service and community work offered by the International Institute, the Society is excited to be able to call the Institute building its new home because of a similar approach to neighborhood engagement. Fresh from last Friday’s successful talk and book-signing by Catherine López Kurland on the Cummings Block/Hotel Mariachi, The Boyle Heights Historical Society is gearing up for its next public offering, the History Day event with this year’s edition being held in collaboration with the Little Tokyo Historical Society on Saturday, November 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Breed Street Shul, 247 N. “Hotel Mariachi” Book Signing on September 19!

The Boyle Heights Historical Society is excited to bring to you this special book-signing event in partnership with the International Institute of Los Angeles. On Friday, September 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the offices of the Institute at 435 S. Boyle Avenue, Boyle Heights, Catherine López Kurland will make a presentation and then sign copies of Hotel Mariachi: Urban Space and Cultural Heritage in Los Angeles, which was co-written by Enrique R. Lamadrid with photographs by Miguel A. Gandert and an introductory essay by Evangeline Ordaz-Molina and published by The University of New Mexico Press in 2013. Kurland
