In recognition of Black History Month, the Boyle Heights Historical Society is offering a free program on Boyle Heights musician Hadda Brooks this Saturday, January 28 from Noon to 3 p.m. at the Benjamin Franklin branch of the Los Angeles Public Library, 2200 E. 1st Street, Boyle Heights.

On the heels of his excellent multi-part posts on Brooks for the Boyle Heights History Blog, Society advisory board member Rudy Martinez will give the presentation on Brooks, who was raised in Boyle Heights and whose musical career from the 1940s onward made her one of the most striking and compelling artists to come from the Los Angeles area.
